Who Is the One to Make up for Abusive Credit Card Fraudsters Practices?
Credit cards are all over the place. There are always a couple of those little plastic devices in nearly every U.S. citizen's wallet. We use cards everywhere - at stores, gas stations, fast food restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, and at lots of other places. Because it is convenient. But just the way credit cards make our life easier, they can make troubles as well.
Once you become a victim of credit card fraudsters - that is where your problems begin. What happens when someone steals your personal credit card information? Right, they just use ID to make purchases with your account.
But the majority of credit card holders can feel safe in a situation like this. These days most of credit card offers guarantee you zero liability on unauthorized purchases. So, how does it exactly work?
In case of credit card information theft you do not incur a liability for the purchases a credit card scammer makes. At the very outside you are liable for a small part of them. But in 99% cases unauthorized purchases, even if a fraudster spends a six-figure sum, will not cost you a penny. And it is very nice to realize that you are protected from that.
But look at it this way. How do retailers make up for the money they lose on accepting a stolen credit card? You might think that it could be the bank you purchased the plastic from, or some of the insurance companies. However, none of these suppositions are even close to the truth.
The solution to this riddle is pretty easy. Say, you have one of the Visa credit cards. You have suffered from identity theft, some credit card scammer stole your personal information and made a purchase using your plastic's details. You have a 0 liability option, so you do not have to pay anything. You credit card company will take of everything. But if another Visa card holder falls a victim to a credit card fraud, it is you who are to compensate for the losses your fellow credit company customer. How come?
The cases of credit scam have become a common practice lately. It is next to impossible to predict and prevent all fraudsters' attacks. And credit card companies just cannot afford paying for all the thefts. They have found a way out. They just raise their rates and fees. Thus, that extra money they get from their clients goes to cover merchants' losses.
Yes, that is a fact of life. But what could be done to stop this injustice?
To tell the truth, you should not look for a comfort in the hope that the problem will be resolved in the nearest future. Credit fraudsters will not stop to carry out their predatory practices. According to the statistics, credit card fraud turned in such a daily routine, that only every ninth fraud case is reported to the Department of Consumer Affairs.
But card issuers keep developing and perfecting credit card protection systems. All you can do is just be on the guard, and look for a credit card application with 0 liability feature.
