Credit Card Deals and Reward Programs
When credit card deals were initially introduced in the mid 20th century, there were no such things as reward programs. Having a card that extended you credit instantaneously was reward enough and for this reason the companies were able to market their credit cards effectively despite offering very little to sweeten the pot.
One of the main reasons for this was the novelty of the credit card. Before the advent of credit card deals, the only way that a person could borrow money was to walk into a bank, credit union or other financial institution and ask for it. Not only did they have to ask for it directly, but they also had to provide something of their own as collateral. Provided that this collateral was deemed to be as valuable as the loan being given, financial institutions were willing to give out the loan. If the debtor failed to pay it back or did anything in the process of paying it back that made the financial institution nervous, they simple liquidated the collateral and used the money from that to cover their loss from the loan. It was simple, offered no risk to the financial institution and for the longest time remained the only way that companies were willing to lend out money.
Then along game the credit card company, with all of their new credit card deals. These new tools of the financial trade did not require collateral, but rather an agreement from the debtor to pay back a larger amount than was borrowed if they were not able to pay back the full loan within a certain period of time. These interest rates were necessary in order for the credit card company to assume the risk of possibly never getting their money back and as such have been in use ever since as far as credit card deals go.
Nowadays though that isn't enough. Consumers want more and for this reason all of the best credit card deals now come with reward programs, incentives and benefits that the credit card company provides the consumer in exchange for the consumer's continuing business.
There are many reward programs to choose from, but how do you know which ones are right for you? Well with a little research and help from this article, you should be able to get a good introduction. From that point on, the rest is up to you.
Figuring out What You Want
It's easy to want every single rewards credit card in existence, but it should be obvious to anyone that even having three or four rewards cards might be a stretch. The reason for this is that each additional card you use dilutes the rewards you get from the other ones. To experience the maximum bang for your buck, stick to one or at most two rewards cards for all your purchases.
So now that we've covered that, what would you like to get for free? Are you always determined to save up for that dream vacation, only to find that you need to use the money for something else? Maybe an air miles credit card is the choice for you! These cards reward points based on the amount of purchases you make with them; points that can be used for anything from going to a movie to paying for an entire vacation (assuming you have enough air miles). Air miles programs are very popular and many people have been able to pay for a significant portion of a vacation just out of making all of their purchases with an air miles credit card.
If you're not interested in saving up for anything, but still want to get some value out of your credit card, then consider using a cash back credit card. These cards actually give you cash rebates for your purchases. Typically in the range of one to two percent, using these credit cards (provided that you pay off the balance in full each month to avoid accruing interest) is like getting a 1-2% discount on everything you buy! If that's not enough to make you sit up and take notice, then I doubt anything else in the world of credit card rewards will.
There are many different credit card reward programs available out there and the first step towards figuring out which one is right for you, is figuring out what you as a person want.
Parting Shots
Once you immerse yourself into the world of credit card reward programs, it can be easy to get excited and carried away. Remember though that you still have to be diligent and disciplined about your credit management. Do not feel pressured to make impulse purchases just to run up your rewards. That is a path to financial ruin and once you start down it, willing yourself to stop and be more sensible is extremely difficult to do.
In addition to remaining responsible, also remember to read the fine print. Many reward programs change after the introductory period expires and many others still have terms that force you to do silly things like maintain a balance to receive the rewards. A credit card company will do anything to make money and many try to hide this fact by encasing it in small blocks of fine print. Reading the fine print is one of the best things you can do for your financial welfare.

The subject of credit card use by young adults is much talked about online and offline, in magazine and internet articles. There are supporters and opponents of issuing plastics to young people among credit consumers and financial experts. However, many of those hair-raising tales about graduates that collect enormous debts are just boogieman stories. The statistics shows that young people became more reasonable in credit card management and most of them do not have loads of debts.
A recent opinion poll conducted among college students revealed that 92% of young adults realize that damage credit history and low credit score could have a negative effect on their future financial standing and cause problems with qualifying for loans.

Reward programs are great! I've been working kind of really hard to improve my credit (the status is 'good' now) and achieve the excellent one. I drive a lot, so I had an opportunity to get Volkswagen Platinum Visa w/Rewards and I'm just happy now. So many bonuses!
