Compare Credit Cards and Beware of Credit Card Debt
As the latest surveys say, debt collection agencies are going to gain more profit in the future from credit card debtors and other credit customers to draw more revenues in the coming years from defaulting credit card holders neglecting their paying obligations. Undoubtedly, there are several reasons for the profits boost with debt collectors, however state attorneys get tons of complaints about the collectors' severe methods. It goes without saying that cardholders who fall into debt are expected to be dissatisfied with their rough and insulting ways, but there is another thing to worry about. You may wonder what it is and how it can influence you.
First of all, let's point out the basic reasons for the profits increase in the debt collection business.
The main explanation lies in the general rise of credit card deal makers who turn out to be insolvent and thus accumulate huge debts. Polls show that American credit consumers are going to accumulate more than $3 trillion of credit debt, hence affording debt collectors ground for prosperity.
It's a well-known fact that credit card debt has always been considered an absolute failure of careless consumers with bad credit card management and spending habits. However, while legislators are making attempts to find and set up some balance between banks and credit consumers, they have found out several indecent actions on the part of the banks.
The matter is that credit card companies are entitled to raise fees and low interest rates on your credit card deal without any visible reason. If you make a late payment, you will be subject to late payment fees, according to the terms reflected in the fine print of your credit card agreement. But you are most likely to be distressed and furious when you are charged late fees if you pay on time!
So, a credit company can set new interest rates on your credit card deal even if you are a conscientious consumer and hold an unsecured credit card. As far as the lenders are aware of the possible risks triggered by the increase of the rate, their methods seem to be completely profit-oriented.
No doubt, it arouses discontent among credit consumers, but it's now common due to the cardholders' helplessness to fight with the credit company methods.
Another matter of concern is violent attempts of debt collectors to knock out the debt the consumers didn't make. The latest surveys show that the increasing number of complaints is connected with the debt caused by identity theft.
This situation has noticed attention of legislators who have decided to adopt a new law in connection with this. The new bill is directed at forbidding credit card debt collectors to carry on their activities if the consumer declares that he is subject to identity theft. The collector has to inquire into the matter and if it is true, the collection activities will be ceased and the accurate information filed to credit bureaus.
As it's not yet clear whether the coming law will be effective, lawmakers are anxious about another issue. That is the sharp growth of the debt buyer industry and the rise of the customers' debt which is the result of indecent methods of credit companies.
